Custom Zinc-Nickel Plating Process for the Automotive Industry
They say that speed kills, but not when it comes to customer service. When Micro Metal Finishing, LLC was approached by a customer in the automotive industry, we knew they expected a fast response. Automotive companies continue to strive to improve their products and, specifically, reducing corrosion continues to be at the top of their list.
In the pursuit of cutting corrosion, our automotive industry client contacted us about entering a new market—zinc-—and they wanted us to do it quickly. Zinc-nickel plating is increasing at a rate of about 20 percent a year as many OEMs are requiring better corrosion protection that only zinc-nickel plating can provide. We had the ability to bring over 60 years of experience in the plating industry to this process, which prepared us to make the necessary investment in an updated plating line, as well as a new X-ray machinery to measure plating thickness and a temperature control system to carefully monitor the process tanks. Our high capacity zinc-nickel line now regularly applies zinc-nickel coatings to over 350 racks of automotive parts and components per shift. We follow the zinc-nickel plating process with a passivation layer of either a clear or black to increase corrosion resistance even more, and then apply high corrosion resistant sealer.
Although our experience spans over half a century, Micro Metal Finishing is one old dog that is only too ready to learn new tricks. If you are thinking about investigating a new plating process, contact us at your convenience.
